Who we are
As our country’s elections come under unprecedented stress, lawyers affiliated with both the Democratic and Republican parties are coming together to identify and hold the line against serious threats to the electoral process. Our concern is not legitimate partisan competition, which allows for challenges to close elections within constitutional and legal limits. Nor is it the rules and procedures of voting and election administration, about which there can be reasonable disagreement. Rather, we will be focused on frontal challenges to our country’s constitutional protections and democratic norms, including threats against election officials, intimidation of voters, and other strategies that obstruct the lawful casting and tallying of votes.
We will work in a manner consistent with Congress’ objectives in enacting the bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act of 2022: respect for rules, procedures, and dispute-resolution mechanisms that ensure public acceptance and respect for the final result. Where we can be helpful in presenting views in a bipartisan fashion to courts, administrators, and legislators, we will do so in a variety of ways at the federal, state and local level—in public communications, in filings with administrators, and participation in judicial proceedings, including “friend of the court” briefs.
